STRATEGIC PLAN OVERVIEW

The Wellfleet Historical Society & Museum is excited to launch our new five-year strategic plan (2023 – 2027). The plan was developed with input from a wide range of community stakeholders. Come join us!

Mission Statement

The WHS&M mission is to tell the story of Wellfleet. Through our research, collections, and programs, we bring the history of Wellfleet to life for our community and visitors.

Vision Statement

We envision a future where a state-of-the-art vibrant center welcomes visitors who come for diverse programs and events for the whole community.

Values

Our values are the heart of the work we do. They drive our efforts to develop a Society and Museum that represent the history of Wellfleet and honor the community, both past and present.

  • We value diversity and inclusion. We are a broad-based, diverse community. We value the story of the community as a whole, as well as each individual’s story. We value collaboration as both an efficient way of getting our work done and an effective way to engage the community.

  • We value excellence and work to set and achieve ambitious goals.

  • We value our role in preserving the material history of Wellfleet with which we have been entrusted.

  • As custodians of the mission and resources of the Society and museum, we value our role in providing good governance, and honor our duties of care, loyalty and obedience to our supporters.

 Priorities

  1. Engage, educate, and excite the public about Wellfleet’s history through compelling stories, well-preserved artifacts, dynamic exhibits, and engaging programming.

  2. Develop engaging programming that brings to life the history of Wellfleet by engaging with one another in a spirit of inquiry and curiosity, fostering a love of our history, and incorporating an historical perspective into the lives of Wellfleet residents and visitors.

  3. Expand opportunities to engage young children and families in Wellfleet’s history and in WHS&M with an emphasis on year-round residents.

  4. Raise the necessary funds to complete the renovation of the building and create sustainable operations.

  5. Expand WHS&M’s capacity for excellence in governance to ensure it is well-positioned to lead the organization and meet the strategic plan’s goals.
